On the leeward coast of the peninsular and facing the sunset, Teahupoo is a small village "off the beaten track": the road becomes a walking track along the water's edge that takes you to the cliffs of Pari and the vast forest and coastal area of Fenua Aihere - where one can still find the odd hermit living a back-to-nature lifestyle...

The lifestyle hasn't changed here: fishing, vegetable gardening, handicrafts, the friendliness & kindness of the local people, this is the Polynesia of yesterday & today.

The tiny harbour with it's marina that welcomes fishing boats & round-the-world yachtspeople is the meeting place for the villagers: one comes here to dream, to chat with friends, to play the ukelele, to fish for ature...

At the end of the road is another favourite spot - the black sand beach at the river mouth where children can go boogie-boarding.

Teahupoo village, made famous by it's surf spots ("the best wave in the world!") has become important in the world of international surf competitions - in particular the Billabong Pro which brings together the top surfers in the world. They come from all corners of the earth to confront the legendary wave. The locals watch, amused, as surfers & tourists pose for photos in front of the "Teahupoo" signpost.

On a plateau, 50 metres above sea level, Vanira lodge has an amazing 180° view over the lagoon. Surfers will appreciate on awaking, being able to assess the waves in each of the 3 Teahupoo surf spots from their bungalow. Needless to say, the sunsets are magnificent.

Vue de Maara

Nestled into the mountain, with natural boundaries, the 2 hectare park offers enough space to ensure the tranquillity of each bungalow.

There are many tropical fruit trees planted around the park, a small waterfall & pond which provides a home for goldfish & a playground for ducks, and still enough room to play whichever ball game you enjoy. The beauty of the view back over the mountains is equal to that over the water.
